Deck staining tips
Deck staining should be done every three to four years to protect your deck from splintering, keep it looking great, and make sure it gives you the 20 years of enjoyment it should.
Don't stain if you don't have to. Give your deck the water test: pour a glass of water on it in several spots, including where there is the most wear, fade or algae. If the water is still beading after ten minutes, take the year off.
And when you do add a fresh coat of paint, prepare the surfaces properly and don't forget the window and door frames — skipping them spoils the whole effect.
